Coaching Requirements

There are four requirements for coaching teams at St. Alban Roe Athletic Association. We understand that this is time-consuming and falls outside of simply coaching a team, but we need to ensure all our coaches and our Athletic Association volunteers, have the proper training and background screening in order to provide a safe and positive experience for the children taking part in all of the sports we offer.

Each of the three training programs is a one-time requirement for coaching any St. Alban Roe sports. You will only have to take each program once and you will meet the requirements for coaching any sport.

The archdiocese has a instructional PDF to help you login and get started.

The first step is registering as a coach with CYC Northwest. This is free and just takes a minute to do. There’s also more information on the steps to follow through with training.

All head coaches, assistant coaches, and Athletic Association volunteers are required to attend the “Protecting God’s Children” class. This class is offered at various parishes in St. Louis and includes Zoom sessions. You can attend at any location.

All head coaches, assistant coaches, and Athletic Association volunteers must register for the “Prevent & Protect” program online. This consists of a background check form, two 20min videos, and agreeing to a code of conduct.

All head coaches and assistant coaches of all sports teams as well as the Athletic Associations Sport Leadership positions are required to complete the “Coaching to Make a Positive Difference” course and submit you coach id.

The “Coaching to Make a Positive Difference” course takes around 2 1/2 hours to complete and costs $24.95 (credit card or PayPal).

All minor aged coaches/assistant coaches need to complete and sign the Code of Ethical Conduct for Minors.
